Bloom exists to make fitness reachable for people who are usually designed out of it. A website that only some people can use would contradict the whole point, so accessibility is something we build in rather than bolt on.
What we aim for
We build this site toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the standard most widely referenced in the U.S., and it covers the things that matter most in practice: text you can read, controls you can reach with a keyboard, content that works with a screen reader, and pages that survive being zoomed or viewed on a phone.
Accessibility is not a box that gets ticked once. Sites change, content gets added, and new barriers appear. We treat this as ongoing work rather than a finished state, and we would rather tell you plainly where we are than claim more than we can stand behind.
What we have built in
- A "skip to content" link so keyboard users can jump past the navigation
- Visible focus outlines, so you can always see where you are when tabbing
- Headings in a real order, so screen-reader users can navigate by structure
- Text and background colors checked for contrast
- Text alternatives for images that carry meaning
- Layouts that reflow rather than break when zoomed or viewed on a small screen
- Labels on form fields, and errors described in words rather than color alone
- Motion that respects your system's "reduce motion" setting
What still needs work
Being specific here is more useful than a blanket claim, so:
- Some pages of this site are still being built, and have not been through a full accessibility review yet
- Our locations map is a visual tool; the same information is available as a text list on the same page, and we are continuing to improve how the two work together
- Where we embed something from another service — a donation form, a video — we do not control its accessibility, though we do choose providers with that in mind
- Older documents and images published before this site was rebuilt may not all meet the standard yet
Tell us about a barrier
If something on this site does not work for you, we want to know. You do not need to know the technical reason or use the right terminology — "I couldn't get past the sign-up form with my keyboard" is exactly the kind of report that helps.
Email info@bloomfitness.org and tell us what page you were on and what happened. We aim to respond within five business days, and if a fix will take longer than that, we will tell you what we are doing and when to expect it.
If you need information from this site in another format, ask us and we will get it to you another way.
How we test
We test with automated tools throughout the build, and we check the things automation cannot: navigating each page with only a keyboard, confirming contrast on real color pairs, and reading pages in a screen reader. Automated checks catch perhaps a third of real problems, which is why the reports we get from people using the site matter as much as the tooling.
